Activities:
Play is an important process to the education philosophy at Conner Prairie where guests go beyond “doing” and experience “being.” Our opening week of Membership Appreciation events celebrate the joys of play. Express yourself through wonder and imagination whether it is indoors at Featherston Barn—we offer elements of Discovery Station and Anything Can Happen Art to promote imaginative play—or at our Ag Adventures at Estridge Family Park for children of all abilities to experience limitless outdoor play. The Tubing Hill will also be open for members to enjoy on a crisp, fall day.
Learn about history and how culture plays an important role. Each day of the week is filled with reflection, positivity and history.
Thursday – Sunday, 10 a.m. – 11 a.m.: Guided Walks of Promised Land As Proving Ground: Join us for a guided walk with Conner Prairie staff through Prairietown and experience the Promised Land As Proving Ground exhibit before the full opening in 2025. This walk will include time to pause, reflect, notice, and wonder as you learn about the history of African American culture through food, faith, family, and fellowship.
Thursday and Friday, 11 a.m. – Noon at the Kiln shed: Cultural Diversity Drum Circle - Join Cultural Diversity Drum Circle and explore the rhythms of different cultures, how they bring people together, and how music improves wellbeing to uplift and celebrate the human experience.
Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m. – Noon at the Kiln shed: Create Your Own Spice Blend – Foodways is an important element to the Promised Land As Proving Ground experience. Here you will get the opportunity to explore and create your own spice blend using spices inspired by the exhibit. Each spice blend bag includes several “Kitchen Conversations” questions to invite dialogue about your story and your place in history.
Embrace the beauty of the natural world as we celebrate the benefits of being outside through the programs offered on the Trails at Conner Prairie.
Thursday, 10 a.m. – 11 a.m.: Trails for Kids – Join Conner Prairie staff at the Trails at Conner Prairie for a stroll along the R.B. Annis Vista Trail. During your walk, connect with nature in ways that feel right in your heart, body, and mind. Your guide will provide you with invitations to aid you in your nature exploration. This program allows you to enjoy each invitation at your own pace.
Friday, 10 a.m. – 11 a.m.: Time with Trees - Join Conner Prairie staff for a stroll along the R.B. Annis Vista Trail. This tree stroll will focus on identification, history, science, and invitations to connect with trees through your senses.
Saturday, 10 a.m. – 11 a.m.: Introduction to Forest Therapy - Experience an introductory Forest Therapy session by a forest therapy guide. Forest Therapy is a guided walk that invites participants to slow down and experience natural spaces in new ways. Your guide will offer a range of invitations to support "bathing" in the sights, sounds, textures, and smells in this shared natural setting.
Sunday, 10 a.m. – 11 a.m.: Stroller Strides - Learn about Stroller Strides through an introduction to our self-guided program. Conner Prairie partnered with Fit4Mom North Indy to create this fitness program that caretakers can do with their young ones in strollers.
Each day 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.:
Drifting Studio: Join us at the Drifting Studio and immerse yourself in the beauty of nature near the Trails at Conner Prairie. The Drifting Studio is The Curious Life’s mobile art studio that allows you to freely create and widely imagine. Specialty “kinship” kits will be available to enhance your experience. These kits are filled with nature observation tools (binoculars, magnifying glass, and field guide), nature reflection tools (shared community notebooks) and nature inspiration tools (mindfulness prompts and books). Sit down, reflect, read, and enjoy the nature around you.
Walk the Trails at Conner Prairie:
Enjoy self-guided tours of the Trails at Conner Prairie. Self-guided programs, curated by our nature specialists, engage guests in various topics related to nature exploration and Conner Prairie. Just pick up a leaflet at any trailhead and begin your journey. These leaflets will provide information and/or invitations to engage with the nature and history surrounding you throughout the Trails.
Mile markers are posted every one-tenth of a mile on both the Prairie and R.B. Annis Vista trails. Utilize the mile markers to determine how far you'd like to adventure around the trails.
