Banner Through Jimmys Eyes

Through Jimmy’s Eyes: Conner Prairie showcases the artwork of Jimmy Keifel. Jimmy, is a young man who has lived in Indiana since 2011. He started making art in 2011, mostly printmaking cards for his friends. Jimmy exhibited his work in public for the first time at the 2016 Autism Society of Indiana Expo. Jimmy now displays and sells his work from the No Label at the Table Bakery and Gallery in Main Street Carmel and at the Hope Gallery in Bargersville. Jimmy attends a part-time life skills program for people with autism in Fishers. Since November 2016, he has volunteered at Conner Prairie, starting out doing data entry. Jimmy began working on art projects at Conner Prairie in May 2018. This exhibit will display some of the recent works that Mr. Kiefel has created inspired by Conner Prairie during his time here.

Jimmy learned to create stencils and relief printing blocks from his photos using a graphics software and a plotter cutter. Working with markers, printing ink and acrylic paint on paper, Jimmy creates bold work using techniques of relief print, gelli plate print, and stencil. He enjoys routine and repetition in his artistic process. His favorite way to start a mixed media piece is to color stripes or squares with markers, and then apply layers of paint to create both vibrant and subtle color combinations. Jimmy especially likes the effect of contrasting flat and metallic paints, and loves to experiment with color.

Through Jimmy’s Eyes: Conner Prairie will be on exhibit in the Welcome Center Atrium March 1-May 12, 2019.
