American Sign Language Tours at A Merry Prairie Holiday
December 13 and 21, 5:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. For guests who are Deaf or hard-of-hearing, we will be offering ASL tours. Each tour will be guided by an ASL interpreter who will communicate between guests and historical interpreters. Groups will make stops at the Golden Eagle Inn, a campfire to warm up with songs and stories with Prairietown locals, the soiree at the Campbell House, the home of the Turner family to learn about nineteenth-century African American holiday customs,…

Fun in the Forge
Fun in the Forge
At Fun in the Forge, you will have the opportunity to be a blacksmith for a day. Create simple projects such as hooks, a flint and steel firestarter (with instructions on how to use it) and a dinner bell. All tools and materials will be provided. Basic Embroidery

Want to learn the foundations of embroidery that provide more depth and knowledge than just an online tutorial? Join our Basic Embroidery course and learn how to create different types of basic stitches. Once you have mastered these introductory embroidery skills, you will use these stitches to create an item that shows off your skills. This class will give you the experience and confidence to expand on these basic skills. All tools and materials are provided. Learn more about our historic classes.
This class is for individuals ages 12+. Anyone under the age of 16 must register with an adult.

About the Teacher
Anne Coffey is living proof that you CAN teach an old dog new tricks! Even though her mother and grandmother introduced her to sewing at a young age, it wasn’t until later in her life that she really embraced the creativity and beauty of hand crafts. Now, she can often be found with knitting pins or embroidery needle in hand, working on a new project to beautify Prairietown.
