Arts and Arms Making Workshops

Advanced Hornworking: Lehigh Valley Screw Tip Horn

Explore the world of historic trades at Conner Prairie’s annual Arts and Arms Making Workshop as you work alongside some of the nation’s best craftsmen.

Work alongside master hornsmith Art DeCamp to make a traditional horn in the Lehigh Valley style. You’ll be introduced to a wide variety of topics including the history and design of horns and their proper architecture, horn selection, heating and shaping, lathe turning and horn threading. Plus, you’ll get many tips and techniques for reproducing period-correct powder horns and finishes. You’re encouraged to bring unfinished horn projects to class for assistance in finishing. If you don’t have one, you’ll get the opportunity to produce a pressed flat horn. Tools required. Please note, this class meets Saturday through Tuesday, October 7-10 from 8 am-5pm and Wednesday, October 11 from 8 am-12 pm. By clicking on "purchase tickets" below, you are able to register once for all five sessions.
