Truth is Better than Fiction: Bust Myths by Thinking Like a Historian
Many myths exist about the Underground Railroad. One of the most popular is the idea that quilts contained secret codes to guide fugitive slaves to freedom. Help your students use the same critical thinking skills employed by historians to evaluate the source of this idea to see if it is fiction or fact. These same critical thinking skills can be applied across disciplines and different types of media.
