Director of Public Relations
FISHERS, Ind. (Thursday, Feb. 9, 2017/Conner Prairie) Conner Prairie is seeking the help of engaging and energetic volunteers throughout 2017 and will hold a volunteer fair from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Feb. 24 at the museum, located at 13400 Allisonville Road in Fishers.
Various museum departments will have staff and volunteer representatives available to discuss volunteer opportunities, which include positions involving special events, gardening, membership recruitment, food and beverage service, sales inside the Conner Prairie Store and more.
“Our volunteers are the heart of our organization,” said volunteer and intern manager Jody Thomas. “They serve in many roles throughout our grounds and many times are the first people to engage our visitors.”
Last year, 41 new people became Conner Prairie volunteers; in all, 375 adult volunteers recorded more than 100 hours each and together, volunteers gave 21,658 hours of their time.
“Our volunteers helped us in ways that would have required the work of 11 full-time staff members at a cost of nearly $500,000,” Thomas said. “The time, talents, energy and level of commitment that our volunteers give Conner Prairie helps us immensely and enriches our visitors’ daily experience.”
Weekday, evening and weekend shifts are available throughout the year. Benefits include receiving discounts in the Conner Prairie Store and Café on the Common, opportunities to earn free admission passes and memberships and invitations to special events.
Volunteers can sign up online. For more information about volunteer opportunities at Conner Prairie this year, contact Thomas at (317) 776-6000, Ext. 264, or by email at email@example.com.
