Bicentennial of the
War of 1812
NEW program!
April 21 & 22
Free with paid general admission
Exactly 200 years ago, a war was raging right here in Indiana between the British and Americans over the rights to rule this land. Come explore another era of war outside of the Civil War and experience firsthand daily life as a soldier in the early 19th century.
Interact with a group of talented reenactors who will bring this tumultuous time to life. Visit the War of 1812 encampment, participate in infantry drills, watch artillery demonstrations, and hear tales of survival and heroism straight from the battlefield. Check out the firearms and equipment used by soldiers, and learn how the Indians lived at Lenape Indian Camp. Although there will be no battle reenactment, cannons will fire at select times.
Many Hoosiers had involvement in the War of 1812, including William Conner and his brother, John Conner, who served as interpreters, scouts and spies. Hear more about their direct ties during special presentations held at 1 p.m. each day.
Stop by 1863 Civil War Journey: Raid on Indiana to see Hoosier Ladies Aside, a ladies side saddle riding group who will perform riding demonstrations at noon and 2 p.m. each day.
