This class will focus on designing, step-by-step warping and weaving a wool scarf on a four harness floor loom. Includes all materials needed for the class. Ages 14 +.
Monday Evenings, February 3-March 10

Learn basic blacksmithing techniques such as using a forge, and harden and temper steel. Each student will have access to individual tools and materials needed to complete project. Typically, project is demonstrated at the beginning of each class. Students then have the remaining class time to practice projects.
Basic Wheel-thrown Pottery
Tuesdays, January 21-February 25

Learn to center, stretch and shape clay and discover the principles of glazing. This class is for everyone from the beginner to the advanced student, with individual instruction provided by Conner Prairie's potters. All clay and materials are included in the class fee. Please bring your own towel for clean up and an apron (optional). Ages 14+
Build a Blanket Chest
Wednesday Nights, February 12-April 2
$425 plus material costs ($415 plus material costs/Conner Prairie member)
Join traditional cabinetmaker Justin Kauffman as he leads the class in constructing a reproduction 6-board blanket chest. Copied from a piece in Conner Prairie’s permanent collection, students will have a choice of oak, poplar or walnut to build the chest. Starting with an examination of the original piece, the class will work through techniques such as selecting and dimensioning stock, hand dovetailing, shooting moldings with a hand plane and finish work. Some hand tools may be required. We will be using premium quality wide-boards. Materials charge will vary depending on species but will range between $100 and $250 depending on species.
Keeping and Raising Chickens

Keeping and raising chickens can be fun and rewarding. Learn the best practices from Livestock Manager Kevyn Miller. This class will cover various heritage and modern breeds of chickens, what is needed in purchasing, brooding, feeding, housing and health concerns – everthing you need to know to raise your own chickens! Ages 12 +.
Blacksmithing: Fabulous Garden Tools

Use simple blacksmithing and metalworking techniques to construct a set of three practical garden tools. The class will use classic blacksmithing techniques to forge and finish a gardener’s trowel, hand hoe and hand plow. All tools and materials included in class pricing.
Saturday, March 22
9 a.m.-5 p.m.

The basics of forge welding in a coal forge will be covered. Fire control and fluxes, chain link welding, bunch welding, and lap welding will be covered. Previous blacksmithing experience preferred. All tools and materials provided. Ages 16+.
Basket Weaving - Pin Cushion Basket
