Conner Prairie Farm
"Our herd has recorded, sold, and tranfered more Berkshires.... than any herd in America." Eli Lilly
Hog breeding was perhaps the most successful area of Conner Praire Farm, in terms of quality of product. Conner Prairie's Berkshire hogs won numerous prizes and were sought after breeding stock. However, it was also among the biggest money losers.
Sheep and cattle operations also produced prize winners, but were never as successful as swine. They, too, lost more money than they earned for the farm.
Sturdy Percheron horses were bred for show, breeding stock and to work on the farm. Other breeds stocked the farm for riding.
