Pamela Jackson - Guest Services
“Hot town, summer in the city…” That song sums up central Indiana’s weather in August as we sizzle in the heat and humidity. And yet, early this month most schools will reconvene, effectively calling a halt to the leisure time families have to visit Conner Prairie. Weekday routines will be re-established, homework must be done and families inevitably postpone their Conner Prairie visits till the weekends.

But wait! There is another option. Hamilton County is fortunate to have Conner Prairie Interactive History Park as a resource for school-age children, so we in Guest Services hope moms and dads will continue to take advantage of all the educational opportunities we offer. For younger children, a short after-school visit to play in Discovery Station or visit Animal Encounters can help burn off some of that excess energy as well as be a learning experience. For older children who need to do school projects, Conner Prairie offers knowledgeable interpreters and hands-on activities that coordinate well with any history or social studies assignment.

Budget-conscious families may balk at the idea of paying general admission for only an hour or two of after-school fun, so Conner Prairie offers a very affordable Family Basic membership, good for one calendar year. A membership not only allows parents to bring their children for as many short after-school visits as they like, it also carries with it discounts on classes, store items, and Café snacks. Since it’s still hot anyway, what could be better than a quick visit to Conner Prairie followed by an ice cream treat?

Those of us at the ticket desk will be happy to give you more information about a membership, convert your one day admission towards a year membership or honor your current membership. We’re still open through fall, despite the early start of the new school year, so please come and make use of our facilities! If you already have a membership, what do you like most about it?
