Just in time for last-minute gifts, the Conner Prairie Museum Shop is now stocked with renowned White House decorator Bill Hixson’s distinctive holiday ornaments. Each mouth-blown, hand-painted ornament has a story to tell—from nutcrackers and angels to exotic birds and colorful fruit, each ornament is unique. Perfect for stocking stuffers, these one-of-a-kind gifts are also affordable, ranging in price from $5 to $18.
Known to many as “Mr. Christmas,” Hixson designs the ornaments, then enlists European artists to create each one. Artists often include their families in the painting of the pieces, enriching the individuality of each ornament.
Hixson’s extensive knowledge of German Christmas traditions influence his designs, as does his experience as a White House holiday decorator for the past five presidents, resulting in an eclectic variety of ornament designs. The latest in his collection can now be found in the Conner Prairie Museum Shop.
In addition to Hixson’s collection, old-fashioned candies, soups, mixes, books and toys stock the shelves of the Museum Shop, perfect for creating original baskets for family or corporate gifts. Conner Prairie’s own artist-made items include hand-crafted wooden cutting boards, pottery and textiles.
