Conner Prairie has been working with members of the Lenape Tribe for 15 years to present educational programming about Lenape (Delaware) history and culture. School and public programs are offered each year, during the Dance! Lenape Traditions experience.
WHAT:
The Dance! Lenape Indian Traditions program will be held on program features members of the Lenape Tribe of Indians explaining and performing Social and Pow Wow dances. This program is free with Conner Prairie admission.

Conner Prairie, 13400 Allisonville Road. The program will take place outdoors, weather permitting.
Dancers will be making the trip from Bartlesville, Oklahoma, the headquarters of the Delaware tribe. Conner Prairie has worked with the Lenape since 1993. Dances performed are from both the Pow Wow and Social dance customs. Pow Wow dances include the Straight Dance, Men’s Traditional, Round Dance, Intertribal and Women’s Shawl. Social dances consist of the Bean dance, the Two-Step and others.
Conner Prairie’s most direct link to the Lenape tribe is through namesake William Conner. Conner, who came to the area as a fur trader in the early 19th century, married a Lenape woman named Mekinges. He lived among the Lenape, but stayed when the tribe was moved to the west.
