As autumn approaches and its time for The Apple Store at Conner Prairie

8/28/2008

WHAT:

A fall favorite for over 15 years, The Apple Store at Conner Prairie is a family favorite with delicious apple treats for everyone, including the persnickety palette. Since 1991, The Apple Store has been a Conner Prairie staple, starting from its humble beginnings as an apple stand in an old pole barn. The Apple Store is now housed in a freestanding building thanks to the Conner Prairie Alliance’s fundraising efforts.

WHEN:

The Apple Store opens September 2 and will remain open through Sunday, November 2. Open Tuesdays through Sundays from 11am – 5pm, the ladies of the Conner Prairie Alliance are excited to see former customers return and are anxious to continue to raise money for Conner Prairie’s educational programs.

WHERE:

Conner Prairie, 13400 Allisonville Road, Fishers, Indiana

ADDITIONAL DETAILS:

To guarantee the freshest apples and cider, The Apple Store receives apple deliveries every Tuesday and Friday from Garwood Orchard in LaPorte, Indiana. Garwood grows multiple varieties of apples so there are always new apples to try.

Among the fresh apples and sweet pasteurized apple cider, The Apple Store also carries hand-dipped caramel apples, fresh apple cider slushies, popcorn and fresh apple pies. Other seasonal treats available include holiday decorations, handmade Conner Prairie pottery, apple butter, jellies and jams and other gourmet food items.

More than 60 women will volunteer at the store this year, filling over 175 shifts. Annually, it takes about 1200 hours to keep the store running with 12,000 apples being dipped each season. The Apple Store will also make special gourmet orders, upon request.

The Conner Prairie Alliance, a woman’s volunteer group and fundraising arm of the museum, operates the seasonal Apple Store at Conner Prairie. This passionate group is recognized at Conner Prairie for donating countless hours, hard work and valued funds to the museum. Since its inception 25 years ago, the Alliance has raised over $1 million for Conner Prairie’s educational programs and donates approximately 18,000 hours of volunteer service per year
