Live the Prairie! Conner Prairie’s Immersion Programs – Become Someone New!

4/1/2007

Live the Prairie is Conner Prairie’s series of immersion history programs, such as Follow the North Star, Fall Creek Massacre Trial, Hearthside Suppers and  Mystery on the Prairie, where visitors can experience 19th-century life firsthand. In each of these programs, visitors become active participants in a historical drama they help create.

Play the role of a fugitive slave in 1836 Indiana through Follow the North Star. Become part of a jury and decide the defendant’s innocence or guilt at Fall Creek Massacre Trial. If you are interested in cooking and dining, travel to the Conner House for Hearthside Suppers and prepare and eat a meal 19th-century-style. Become a deputy, gather clues and try to find the murderer during Mystery on the Prairie.

These potentially life-changing experiences open the eyes of so many people. From discovering the depths and dark history of slavery to preparing a meal by candlelight over a fire, individuals who participate in these programs gain a greater appreciation for those who lived in the past. They experience the challenges that had to be overcome and the joys involved with living a simple life. If you haven’t already lived the prairie, this year is the time to do it!
